Artistic View : Originally from the United States, MissWilcox short for Melissa, established herself in Thetford Mines, Quebec in 1985 when she was only 5 years old. She now resides in Chambly, near Montreal with her small family. She’s a full-time mom, a freelance graphic-illustrator, painter and also a fashion critic for Surmon36.ca.
In her heart, she is a collector and she has a lot of respect for the past. That’s probably where her choice of mediums comes from. Acrylic paint freezes time as it dries so quickly. It captures the essential. In her art, clair-oscur, textured paint, transparency and a multitude of different decorative elements are combined to create a pièce that’s unique yet familiar. From her muses with dark pasts to her abstract art really textured, there is always a gestured and instinctive approach to Melissa Wilcox’s work. By those means, she exteriorizes her emotions and anxiety with a mysterious harmony never too rigorous. She shares mystery and shows the inexplicable. The Spectator is then free to explore his own version and follow the universe in which he is transported. Melissa’s paintings are marked not only by movement but also by typography that came from her studies in Arts and Graphic Design. Her love affair with typography started with her graphic design class. You can witness those incursions by the subtlety text inserted, the hand written letters, book pages, poems, script… She enjoys researching new techniques and improving her skills, accomplishes herself. Her only desire resides into formulating what is beautiful in her eyes. Melissa Wilcox is an artist who wants to share beauty and believes she can offer something to the world. Humble and discrete, she expresses herself by creating an enigmatic link between the art witness and the painting. Magnificent work of art with an unfinished edge to it but having all it’s sense, that is what she aspires.
